This Little Prayer of Mine Review and Giveaway

After noting the advance comments from Danae Dobson and Bernice King, I was interested to see Anthony DeStefano’s new book This Little Prayer of Mine. Many religiously themed books geared toward children are treacly and/or are oversimplified to the point of being doctrinally incorrect, but I was pleased to see that DeStefano’s book avoided those pitfalls.

This Little Prayer of Mine follows the prayers of a brother and sister who pray for God’s strength when they are frightened, for His comfort when they are sad, that He would show them the right path, forgive them for their sins, and be with them when they are alone. The prayer also thanks God for a number of blessings and asks for God’s help to make the children more like Himself by showing love to others and being generous. I think the book gives a good framework for ways children can pray that fit their experience but are also glorifying to God.

The illustrations, done by Mark Elliott, are colorful and convey emotion well. Although they don’t overwhelm the text, the pictures offer plenty of detail to talk about with your children and keep them interested.

In addition to a review copy for us, the publisher also kindly sent an autographed copy of This Little Prayer of Mine for me to give away to one reader. If you’d like to win the book, you can enter up to three times:
