Rip Off the Bandaid Week

As you may have gathered by my three week blog hiatus, the kids and I just returned from our annual trip to see the relatives and hit the beach. Whilst on the road, Jack completely fell off of the potty training wagon and started using his pacifier all the time (he was only having it at night and for naps at home). Sarah went from waking once or twice a night to waking four times a night.

You expect a little break to the routine when you’re on the road, but now that we’re home we need to get back on track. Also, Sarah is 8 months old and had never slept more than 4 hours in a row in her entire life. I am ready for a little more rest.

To that end, I have declared this Rip Off the Bandaid Week. I like to get the hard work done all at once rather than spreading it out over time.

So Saturday night I went in and rocked Sarah when she woke up so she wouldn’t feel abandoned, but I didn’t nurse her for several hours. Then last night I nursed her at 9:30, then she woke again at 11 crying so I rocked her and put her back to sleep, and she didn’t wake up again until seven in the morning!!! She didn’t even wake up crying, although she was happy to eat. This also seems to be helping her eat more during the day, which is a better schedule for us all. I don’t want to speak too soon, but that was some super easy sleep training!

Jack gave up his pacifiers this morning. He didn’t seem to care about it while he was up, but now it’s naptime and he is crying, “Oh no Mommy! Way-uh mah pa-wa? I neeeeeeeeeeeed mah pa-wa! Oh nooooooooooo! Oh deah! Mah pa-wa, Mommy!” I think this will be the hard part. Will he ever sleep again? At least he hasn’t had any potty training accidents today, as far as I know.

I was supposed to be getting up at 5am again starting today, but I forgot to set my alarm. I think my subconscious is engaging in a little sabotage. Oh well, tomorrow is a new day!
