The Week in Books 2009, No. 24

Having so greatly enjoyed Linda Dillow’s book/study Calm My Anxious Heart, I also picked up her next book, A Deeper Kind of Calm: Steadfast Faith in the Midst of Adversity. It was a good book, and I got some good insights from it, but it wasn’t as challenging as Calm My Anxious Heart. A Deeper Kind of Calm is a study of four Psalms (77, 46, 63, and 84) and what they can teach us about having faith during hard times. It may just be that this is a book that would be better done in a group study. If you’re on your own, I’d recommend you get Calm My Anxious Heart instead, unless you’re looking for something particularly directed to the Psalms or hard struggles.
