Finding Good Books

After their wonderful summer reading program last year, I got in the habit of stopping by Half Price Books regularly. I usually go in a few times a month with magazines I’ve already looked at (I get tons of free magazine subscriptions from tips on Money Saving Mom) – HPB buys the magazines and I use the proceeds to pick up a few childrens books from the clearance shelves.

It’s truly amazing to me (and sad, really) that classic books and medal winners are so often in the clearance section, but it works out well for me! I like to build our library at rock bottom prices!

You do have to hunt through some junk to find the good stuff however. For example, last week I found a new (spine not even cracked!) Sarah, Plain and Tall marked down to 50 cents right next to The Day My Butt Went Psycho. (And yes, that is my Amazon affiliate link, in case you feel like you need to read a book like “The Day My Butt Went Psycho” at full price.)

Our Half Price Books store is having a sale this weekend (April 23-27) during which all clearance books will be an additional 50% off. If you have a HPB near you, it might be worth calling to see if they are running a similar promotion.
