The Week in Books 2009, No. 9

Praying Backwards” is an examination of what the phrase “in Jesus’ name” is really supposed to mean, and a suggestion that Christians reorient prayers away from ourselves and toward God’s will. Beyond the academic theological answer, which is covered in depth, the book delves into what that really means and what that looks like in an actual prayer life.

Although the topic of praying in Jesus’ name is a worthwhile premise in itself, the book goes on to explore related concepts and answer questions you might have about prayer. I found the entire book encouraging, thoughtful and useful, and would highly recommend it.
