The Week in Books 2009, No. 10

I’ve read a lot of good marriage books, but I thought “Love and Respect” by Emerson Eggerichs had some good insights about communication. Eggerichs’ thesis is that women are designed to need love, and men are designed to need respect, and when either of those needs are challenged or not being met, the offended party will often react in ways that unintentionally challenge the other spouse’s need. Although we have pretty good communication in our marriage, I did learn a lot and would recommend this book to married or engaged people.
