At our play date last week, Rose opined that I should do a post about our Jesse Tree in case anyone would be interested in this fun way to combine family devotions with an Advent calendar type activity for the month of December. The wonderful thing about a Jesse Tree is that you can modify it to suit the ages of your children, and really get them involved, while keeping your whole family focused on the real reason why we celebrate at Christmas.
Last year I set up a blog specifically about our Jesse Tree (linked in the left sidebar), with posts for each day showing an ornament idea, giving selections of Scripture, and also referencing parts of children’s Bibles you could use with really young kids. Feel free to pop over there to check it out and see if it’s something you might like to do with your family. The first post contains a thorough overview of the concept in case it’s unfamiliar to you.
This would be a great time to start collecting or making ornaments to set aside so that you don’t have to have a mad scramble on December first. It’s true what they say, being prepared really does cut down on holiday stress. It would be hypocritical of ME to say it, because “mad scramble” seems to be my default mode year ’round, but I figured I would mention what THEY say, because when I take Their advice, I find they are correct.
If anyone has any thoughts or ideas about Advent, please share with us!
