I recently found out about an interesting program called Entrecard, which is basically a barter system for advertising your blog. It’s free, and if you have a cute little button for your site you can drop your card around at similar blogs, get new readers, and build points to barter advertising space on other blogs. That works for me. If you decide to join, I don’t get any points, but you can get some points by dropping your card at my Entrecard link in the left sidebar, and I’ll drop back to you. It will be like passing notes in high school, except not as silly, and my cute little site button does not use puffy hearts to dot its “i”s or write with purple ink that smells like synthetic grapes.
I wonder if kids even drop notes anymore now that they can text and whatnot? What a sad loss to teenage culture not to have the handwritten notes folded into elaborate shapes, brutally documenting for posterity all the little crushes and fashion choices that seemed like such a good idea at the time. Oh high school – how I do not even remotely miss those days at all!
Yeah, but back to Entrecard. So far I think this is a pretty nifty program. I can see how you could get sucked in to spending a lot of time on it, but you can just as easily give it a short amount of time and still get an increase in traffic. I’m not out to blog full-time, but I’m trying to get my page view average up a little bit so that around the new year I can write a great pitch to publishers to send me copies of their books to review. I’ve been gratified to get a few of those so far, but I’d like to get more, and of more variety. Of course, if I were to start making a bit of money from my google ads or Amazon affiliate store, that would be great too, but I’m not holding my breath. 🙂
Speaking of the button you’ll need to join Entrecard, you can get mine to add flair to your site by grabbing the button code in my left sidebar, if you’re so inclined.
