Three Things I Like

Thing One: Crepe Myrtles
One of the sad things about living on the prairie is that I’m pretty sure Crepe Myrtles won’t grow here, and more’s the pity because they are among my favorite plants. Except they are more like trees. In any case, they are truly lovely when they are in bloom, and come in a variety of colors.
Thing Two: Melissa and Doug puzzles
My aunt Fran clued me in to these fabulous handmade wooden puzzles, which are virtually indestructible, quite educational, and loads of fun for kids. We are amassing quite a collection of them, and they are some of Hannah and Jack’s favorite toys. I like having a fewer toys that are higher quality (except somehow we still wind up with baskets full of junk that must be purged with alarming frequency…how does that happen?) and these puzzles certainly fit that bill.

Thing Three: baby sunscreen sticks
I’m sure everybody knows about these now, but I just found out about them this spring and they have saved the summer. If you’ve ever tried to slather a baby with regular sunscreen, you know it gets all over the place and they smear it in their eyes and shed bitter tears, and you are torn between their momentary comfort balanced against the probability of them getting skin cancer. Sunscreen sticks, which are like fat glue sticks in size and product consistency, solve all of these problems. The only downside is that the sticks get used up much more quickly than the regular sunscreen, so we’re on our second stick of the summer. I only use them on faces and use regular baby sunscreen on arms and legs and so forth.

Of course I like many other things as well, but these three seem like good ones to highlight today. What are three things you like today?
