After I posted my dilemma regarding all of our ruined baby clothes, several readers commented, others left me emails, and still others messaged me on Facebook about the wonders of Oxi Clean. Thank you all!
I had tried homemade remedies like the Cascade/Borax soak before, which sort of made a difference, but didn’t get back to new looking or prevent the stain from resurfacing in storage. Hannah had very tenacious spitup, that’s all I can figure.
Tenacious or not, it was no match for Oxi Clean! I got a tub of Oxi Clean from Walmart for $5.80, and used it to make up two batches of 8 gallons each of the water and Oxi Clean solution in an extra plastic storage bin I had handy. I added the newborn and 0-3 month clothes, as well as the burp cloths and bibs and various other accessories, and also threw in a couple of other pieces of clothing with set-in stains. I let the whole thing soak for 24 hours, stirring with a long handled wooden spoon whenever I thought of it.
After 24 hours, I had Josh empty the storage tub into the washing machine, added regular detergent (I believe I’m using Arm and Hammer free and clear or something like that, if it matters to you) and ran the load of wash. When it came out of the dryer, you would have thought I had just washed brand new clothes. The results were THAT amazing. Without hurting the colors even the tiniest bit, all the spitup stains have VANISHED. One shirt that was on top of the bin so not really soaking enough did have one spot that is still the faintest bit yellowed, but I plan to soak it again to see if that helps.
All in all, I saved Sarah’s entire wardrobe for only $5.80 and I think that was money well spent! I will definitely be investing in Oxi Clean from here on out, and I highly recommend it! For more frugal tips, check out the Frugal Friday carnival.
I was not paid in any way for writing this, but if someone wants to send me free products as a thank you, well, I won’t turn them down.
