Today was a nice day after all and we had quite a lucrative morning, earning over $110 at our garage sale. Most of what sold was my CVS stockpile but we also got rid of a number of other things that had been cluttering up our house and garage.
It’s always surprising to me what people will and will not purchase at a garage sale. For example, the tacky huge dangly earrings I wore during a middle school phase in the early 1990s sold like hotcakes, but the much more normal looking jewelry did not. Curious.
If you’re interested, I priced the CVS stockpile pretty low, but still made a crazy profit considering I never pay anything to take these things home in the first place (sales+coupons+extra bucks; if you need the details check out Money Saving Mom). I priced razors at $2, those little baby fingernail clippers at 25 cents, Playskool baby bottles at 50 cents, and everything else (shampoo, conditioner, cleanser, body wash, shaving cream, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc) at 75 cents. All I had left of my considerable stash at the end was a few tubes of Colgate that I can save until next time. I still have a few things in the linen closet that we will use as a family, and I’ve donated some things and given lots of things to family members, so it’s pretty amazing to think about the volume of stuff my little hobby has generated since I started last November!
Since at our last garage sale I only made like $13 total, I feel pretty good about the sale today. I sat in a comfortable chair and read books and also did some yard work between customers. All in all, a very productive morning.
