This afternoon Josh, Hannah and I drove just a few miles down the road to the Apple Family Farm. We got a cowshare there, and I just finished trying the milk – delicious!!! Mrs. Apple gave us a tour of their store, which includes lots of great natural and organic products from their farm and around Indiana, plus books. They have a little lending library, a playroom for kids, and a big room full of spinning and weaving equipment. That was SO neat – after reading about the sheep-to-cloth process in “Home Life in Colonial Days” (see my review here) it was fascinating to see the actual equipment for carding, spinning, and a big wooden loom. I’ll have to go back sometime just to watch the process in action. They are also planning to start offering classes on a variety of things, and are putting in a commercial kitchen.
I thought the whole set-up was great and look forward to going back to get our milk every week. Hannah liked seeing all the animals too. Sometime it would be cool to see the cows getting milked, but maybe Hannah might spook them if she made a loud noise, I don’t know how that works.
Anyway, it was a really fun outing!
