Making Way For Jack

The nice thing about having decorated Hannah’s nursery in neutral colors and Beatrix Potter characters is that I don’t have to do much to change it for Jack. We did, however, have a few pink accent pieces that need to be changed. Today I finished the first of these.

For toy and diaper changing type storage, we have white wicker baskets with liners. You can get this look from Pottery Barn Kids, but it’s smarter to get the same exact thing from Michaels when they put their baskets on half price (which is often). The ones we have came with pink gingham liners (see below).

The Basket Liner – Before

At first I thought I would just buy new basket liners from PBK, but the blue they have is too dark to match the crib skirt, rocking chair cushions, and curtains we already have. Instead, I got some blue broadcloth and made my own liners. The new liners looked a little plain, so I added ribbon rosettes (bows seemed too girly) from ribbon my mom found that perfectly matches the colors in the fabric we already have. Each rosette has a yellow sunshine button in the middle of it. I’m pretty pleased with how these turned out. In my opinion, they are much cuter than the original gingham, and the cost for all four liners was under $6 total, versus paying $8 each at PBK.

Now all I have left to do is switch the current pink gingham lampshade (the lamp conveniently came with a pink gingham AND a blue gingham shade) for the blue one, make a new pillow cover for the accent pillow on the rocking chair, and put away the pink changing table pad (I also have those in yellow and green, so no hassle there). Finally, I will rearrange the drawers to make room for some baby boy clothes. Less than 15 weeks left to nest! 🙂
