Losing It

Last night I went out to dinner with some friends and was so excited to be able to use a tiny purse rather than a great big diaper bag. How excited was I? So excited, in fact, that I forgot to put ANYTHING in the purse. So there I was with a cute and tiny but totally empty handbag. Luckily I was able to borrow money to buy food. How lame is that?

Then, to add insult to injury, on the way home I thought I would take the “shortcut” on Pendleton Pike, but in the road construction in the dark I managed to make a wrong turn in a detour and wound up in a really sketchy lower Eastside neighborhood full of strip clubs…finally I called Josh and he helped me figure out where I was and how to get home from there.

That’s the amazing thing about Josh – his mind is like Mapquest. If you give him any intersection in Indianapolis or its environs, he can tell you down to the most minute detail how to get to wherever you’re going. You say “Josh, I’m on Kessler and there is a bowling alley on the left” and he says “oh sure, just go through your next seven stoplights and make a left…” He’s got mad skills. I used to be good at getting out of being lost when I lived in DC – at some point I had been lost everywhere in the city so if I kept driving I’d see something familiar and figure it out. I find Indianapolis is much more complicated, especially at night. Or at least that’s what I tell myself to make myself not feel like so much of an idiot…
