The common ant, though small in size
At picnics likes to socialize
An explorer of sorts
He’ll run through your shorts
On his way to your pate and pies.
I didn’t write the above limerick, but I have always liked it. The truth is, ants aren’t cute when they are in your house! We have been finding ants here and there in our dining room and kitchen for the past few days and can’t figure out where they are coming in. Normally when you get ants, you can follow the line of them to find their means of ingress. Our ants though are only in ones and twos – not very many of them. It’s really frustrating. So the dog has been banished to eat only outside, and I’m vacuuming and mopping several times a day to try to keep any potential food sources cleaned up. Josh suggested that we put down an ant trap so they would carry poison on their little legs back to wherever it is they come from and kill them all. I’m a little wary of that plan since we have a dog and a somewhat mobile infant. I don’t really want to poison either of them!
Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?
